Reading the Transparent Performance Dashboard Honestly
What backtest vs. live actually means, why win rate isn't the whole story, and how to read a losin g week without panicking.
The Performance page shows two equity curves: Backtested and Live. They are not the same thing and shouldn't be read as the same thing.
Backtested is historical seed data — a starting reference point showing what the risk-managed approach looks like applied to past price action. It's useful for understanding the shape of the strategy, but it was not generated by the live rules engine watching real-time market conditions with no knowledge of what came next.
Live is signals the actual rules engine generated in real time, from real market data, with the outcom e unknown at the moment the signal fired. This is the number that matters more, and it's also the numb er that will be lumpier — real markets don't move in the smooth pattern that's easy to backtest.
Win rate is not the whole story either. A 55% win rate with disciplined position sizing beats a 90% wi n rate where the 10% of losses are unlimited — that's how signal services blow up while claiming a gre at track record right up until they don't. Look at cumulative return and win rate together, not either alone.
A flat or negative week is not a sign the system is broken. It's a sign you're looking at a real week. If every week were positive, that would be the actual red flag.
